SMU students’ campaign wins support of government agencies

Dare to be different!
They'll clean your toilets!

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/cna/20090314/tap-275-smu-students-campaign-wins-suppo-231650b.html

"SINGAPORE: A group of first—year undergraduates from Singapore Management University (SMU) has decided to think out of the box for their Leadership and Teambuilding course.

Called Project Royal Flush, the team came up with an unusual campaign idea that has garnered massive support.

For the Toilet Cleanliness Week campaign, volunteers from outside and within the university were recruited and put through basic training in toilet cleaning.

Lena Chang Yoke Yee, Project Royal Flush Organising Committee, said: "While we were brainstorming in class, we decided to come up with ideas that had not been implemented. Public toilets are very filthy at times, so we decided... as students, to clean it ourselves."

Their project has won support from the likes of the National Environment Agency (NEA), PUB and the Restroom Association of Singapore.

Tan Zhi Teng, project executive, Restroom Association, said: "It’s going to be a campaign for about five to ten years. Perhaps the Restroom Association will start small in other schools... and from there, we will actually expand and hopefully we can reach out to the masses.""

It's late, and all that I've been doing this night/morning is watch videos of the Wondergirls.
This obsession is not in the least bit healthy, but I don't really care.

MARRY ME YEEUN!

My, how sour these grapes are.

I just love it when people make themselves out to be more important than they really are.

Explosions In The Sky - A Song for Our Fathers

Along the way, the fervour to discover new music had waned.
Then one great track comes by and pulls you back into the lush soundscapes which used to permeate your realm.

Deep down

You know, it's taken me all of 23 years to realise that when people talk to you about their problems, no one wants to hear your take on the solutions at hand.
Chances are they probably have decided on their course of action, which they are inclined to take.

Oh well.

When?

When people start to leave, when the tears run dry, when the ashes are formed,
the memories start to fade, though you know they never should.

After all these years, I still get irritated when people intrude upon my personal space.
A character flaw?
Maybe.
Maybe not.

All the time, I tell myself this.
"Not smart don't act smart"

Mar. 25th, 2008

Huh?

Apparently, the island's looking for a special person. I'm sure Mr Mas Selamat needs no further introduction. So the general public is supposed to be good cooperative citizens by aiding in the search via tip-offs.
I'm guessing some tip-offs were made by over-zealous but well-meaning individuals, yet some are made with malice.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/336943/1/.html
"Man who made false reports about spotting Mas Selamat jailed"
"SINGAPORE: The bus driver who made false police reports claiming he had spotted a man resembling escaped JI leader of Singapore Mas Selamat Kastari has been sentenced to 21 months in jail.
The 49-year-old SMRT bus driver, Ng Hang Hai, made his first false report on 1 March shortly before 8pm...
...For these offences, the deputy public prosecutor Wendy Yap said Ng has seriously jeopardised the search for Mas Selamat.
She said Ng had caused a waste of precious man hours that could have been better utilised..."

So Mr Ng decides to be funny, makes a few prank calls to the police. The sentence would be 21 months in jail.
Harsh, really harsh. A good(?) deterrent towards people who might have similar intentions it seems.

Re-wind to another article a few months back.

http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20070923-26586.html
"Drunk driver had 'alcoholic amnesia': Psychiatrist"
"COFFEE shop assistant Teo Khian Meng never knew what hit him.
A car had slammed into him with such force that he was flung onto another car in the opposite direction, shattering its windscreen. Mr Teo, 56, died three hours later in hospital.
The date was Oct 19 last year.
That night, general manager Rick Lee Chuan Huat was driving home from a birthday party - with more than three times the legal alcohol limit.
His car hit Mr Teo along Bukit Purmei Avenue, but he drove on.
Yesterday, Lee, 49, pleaded guilty to causing Mr Teo's death by a rash act and to drink driving. He was jailed for seven months and fined $3,500 and also disqualified from driving for eight years..."

Now Mr Lee, obviously drunk, drove his car and killed someone accidentally. Oops, sorry, his bad. Hey no worries, he'll be free after 7 months in jail, and just $3,500 poorer. Oh, he can't drive for another 8 years either. The poor soul.

So essentially, it seems, that in the eyes of the law, a more serious offence is committed when some joker plays a prank, thereby wasting "precious man hours", compared to the demise of an innocent due to the perpetuator's negligence/irresponsibility.

I could live with that.
Barely.

Cows and oil

Yes, it's the usual reflection time yet again, happening at 5:45 am on a night where eating a whole cow seems to be easier than getting to sleep.
I kid.

Another 2 months more to May. May happens to be the month of my exams. May is a horrible month, with exception to 1 particular day, since May's born in the month of May on the 14th of May.
Here's a photo of May, and a cow.

I might have eaten the cow if it were an alternative to a sleeping pill. But I wouldn't really fancy a mouthful of cotton.

In lieu of the new high reached for pump prices, I'm hereby starting a Crude Oil Campaign for Knowledge - Singapore (COCKS). I will launch a roadshow educating the public on the amazing paradoxical equilibrium that is observable at your nearest friendly petrol station price billboard.
Let C be the variable for Crude oil, and P be the variable for Pump Prices.

Scenario 1) When C0 increases to C1, P0 increases to P1.
C1 = P + (vroom vroom)
The nearest friendly petrol station cites rising costs due to higher crude oil prices as a reason for the increase in P. Fair enough I say.

Scenario 2) However, when C1 decreases C2 which is a point higher than C0, P stays constant.
C2 = 4/3 P + (less vroom vroom)
The same friendly petrol station has no comments regarding this scenario.

Scenario 3) When C2 increases to C3 which is higher than C1, P increases from P1 to P2.
C3 = 2P + (lesser vroom vroom)
Now, the friendly petrol station tells you to switch to a lower grade of fuel to derive the same utility function of having your vehicle move.

Therefore, empirically, P increases when C increases. But yet, P increases when C decreases.
WHY LIKE THAT?

It's...

the new year!
Happy new year and gong xi fa cai to all!
huat ahhhh!

Amidst all that is happening, perhaps it'd be prudent to take a step back, plan and prioritise.

So be happy (which seems to get increasingly harder for some), be healthy (same ol' resolution), be smart, take care and don't let the chikungunya get you.
